Artwork – Kashmiri Crewel Embroidery
Region – Jammu & Kashmir
This artwork represents Kashmiri Crewel, a hand-embroidery technique using wool or silk yarn on cotton or fabric. Originating as early as the 1st century BCE and flourishing under Mughal patronage in the 16th–17th centuries, it features intricate floral, paisley, and geometric motifs created with an aari (hook-like needle). Traditionally used for home décor, apparel, and accessories, it reflects Kashmir’s rich artisanal heritage.
