I salute brave security personnel who sacrificed their lives to save our lives in the attack on Parliament: Vic e President Attends Cultural Event organized by Rajya Sabha Secretariat Employees Recreation Club

The Vice President and the Chairman, Rajya Sabha, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu has said that he salute the brave security personnel who have sacrificed their lives to save our lives and protect our democracy in the attack on Parliament in December 2009. He was addressing the Cultural Event organized by Rajya Sabha Secretariat Employees Recreation Club, here today.

The Vice President said that he is extremely happy to be present with all employees of Rajya Sabha Secretariat and touched by the warm welcome extended to him.

The Vice President said that the ex-officio position of Chairman, Rajya Sabha is a unique constitutional arrangement. He further said that it is a very important function to preside over the Rajya Sabha and guide the course of its proceedings. With his long association with the Rajya Sabha in different capacities, he had certain vision about the Rajya Sabha and its Secretariat, he added.

The Vice President said that let us make an assessment of the areas where improvement can be made both in terms of functioning of the House and the Secretariat and identify the areas, which will require focused attention. He further said that it is a matter of great pride for all of us to be part of this august institution and serving the supreme representative body of the world’s largest democracy. Our Parliament represents the hopes and aspirations of over a billion people, he added.

The Vice President said that we have witnessed the splendid performance of Smt. Malini Awasthi, who performed live. He further said that Music doesn’t need a language and relaxation through music and dance actually soothes our mind and elevates our spirit and helps us to perform better in a more productive way. This enchanting cultural evening has rejuvenated all of us, he added.
